The idea for this painting resulted from a visit to the Lisbon Show. The classes were rather leisurely and judging (presumably) very thorough. As a result the competitors spent much of their time waiting around the edge of the ring and I was struck by just how patiently the horses awaited their turn to display in front of the judge, especially as many were youngstock - in this case a three year old colt. A striking individual, I loved his profile and indeed, he went on to win his class.
