COMMISSIONSIn addition to offering original paintings and drawings for sale, I am happy to undertake commissioned work of any kind – portraiture in particular, either of any horses, or horse, with or without a rider. I am pleased to work in any of the following media: pencil, conte, watercolour (using a ‘drybrush ‘ technique which is excellent for conveying muscle tone, hair texture and eye expression) or oil and in a variety of sizes. The cost will be determined by the size, chosen medium and complexity of the work but I offer a wide selection of possibilities! The procedure: Assuming that I am required to paint a specific horse then the usual procedure would be that I make arrangements to visit the animal (or animals) in question – wherever it may be! First impressions really do count and I will have a ‘feel’ for the horse quite quickly once we have been ‘introduced’. Not only will I take in it’s physical attributes, both in overall look and in detail, but I can usually get a sense of the underlying personality too especially once we have undergone a posing session, at which point I will take a great number of photographs of each individual both standing and in action…. This way I can build up a composite image and then I will create one entirely of my own based on my impression and using all of my photographic material as a source of information. Usually the only instance when a commission does not follow this pattern is when an animal is either deceased or in a remote and otherwise difficult to access location in which case I can only rely on whatever reference material that I am given. At this point I would then invoice for my deposit of 20% of the sum agreed to carry out the work (see conditions*) and I would give an indication of the timescale likely to be required to complete it. I always do my best to meet specific deadlines (eg, presentations, leaving or birthday gifts and of course Christmas) but the more notice that I am given the more likely I am to meet the desired delivery date! I am often asked to produce work intended as a ‘surprise’ gift and this too can be accomplished (although not always without difficulty and it has to be admitted, the occasional white lie – but in the best of causes!) Gift Tokens If you would like to commission a picture as a gift but have left it too late, then why not considered one of my gift tokens? This will be presented in one of my own greetings cards so that you will have something tangible to present on the day in question and the recipient can then have the pleasure of ‘directing’ their picture to suit their own preferences…. Themed Commissions A themed commission is one where I may be required to paint a scene or a ‘generic’ picture such as a stallion in action, a cobra of mares or perhaps someone using the Garrocha – it could be anything at all based on Iberian horses in general and with no portraiture involved….I am happy to undertake all such commissions and would discuss this in some detail with my client before producing the finished work. Prices I have a detailed price list which I will be happy to send on request but prices do vary considerably according to the size, medium and nature of the work (eg., a painting involving the portraiture of one or more horses set in a landscape would cost more than a simple head and shoulders study even if they were the same size) To give some idea however, the following are my minimum prices using the media listed: Drawings in either pencil or conte (see ‘Drawings’ for more information about the difference between the two) from£300 (image size 14” x 18” approx) Watercolours: from £475 (image size 12” x 16” approx) Oil on canvas: from £3,000 (head study 16” x 20”) Terms and Conditions Copyright: I retain the copyright on all my original art work and no paintings may be reproduced for commercial reasons without my consent. Deposit: A deposit of at least 20% of the price of the commissioned work is required at the time of placing the order.Balance of Payment : This is required on delivery and acceptance of the finished work. Overseas: For paintings commissioned from overseas, total payment is payable prior to shipping (the final work will be photographed and the image sent to my client prior to my raising an invoice). Payment will required by bank transfer prior to the shipment of the painting. Framing: Framing is not included in the prices quoted but I am happy to arrange it on behalf of my clients and will discuss the mouldings available and offer,if possible, a choice of framing to meet different budgets. Delivery: UK: Delivery will be charged at 20p per mile. The above is intended as a guideline, but should you require any further information or if you have any queries regarding placing a commission , please do not hesitate to contact me without obligation. tel: +44(0) 1932 342055 |
