Paintings Awaiting Their Turn in The Heat of The Day Paradise Valley

PAINTINGS

My paintings are either oil on stretched canvas or watercolours - I never use acrylic as I find it an unsympathetic medium.

I often prepare the canvases myself and use the best cotton duck canvas on strong stretchers which are designed to maintain the tension of the canvas for many years. Rabbit skin glue size is used to prepare the canvas prior to applying a primer . I use the size to prevent the canvas from becoming too porous but the rabbit skin size ensures that elasticity is maintained. All of these are important factors when considering the potential life span of the painting .Similarly I only ever use Artists’ oil colours which offer the highest degree of permanence.

My watercolours are produced using a technique that incorporates both traditional washes and a’drybrush’technique – so called because it is almost like drawing but with paint. This technique requires a great deal of patience but can give a wonderful effect especially with regard to coat and skin texture. Once again only Artists’ quality paints are employed and the paper used is a very heavy, acid free Bockingford (535 gsm).
